Kana Yama let a placid sigh pass through her pale lips. Her dark crimson eyes changed hues to a cynical scarlet as she let her slender figure press against the firm obstruction of a cypress trees trunk. The moon was full and round; and loomed high above on its nightly trail, its light contrasting the starless sky and ignoring the serenity of the world its being orbitted about. A shadow of the benevolent guard cast a luminous glow; one that reflected off of the shimmering banks of the pool of chrystalline waters before her.
All of this beautiful scenery meant very little to her, however. She only sought to find her brother Haris. She was considered by most as clingy, yes; but she never enjoyed being away from the only person whom protected her. Even though she could very well handle herself, as she had been doing the last month or so; she wanted nothing more than to be with her older sibling again in one piece.
A cold breeze blew gently, Kana brushed the long silvery strands of her hair from her face. With another sigh, Kana rubbed her palms together gently to build heat. It was definitely proving to be a frigid night. The silence of the woodland around her only made Kana feel more desolate from the world she was forced to live in. The only other that showed her the tender compassion of family was Haris's good friend, Kuro. Though a bit of a goofball all of the time, he was still an improvement as opposed to everyone else.
Yeah, if Kuro were here; he would have consoled her when she felt so outcast to her brothers missions. Haris was often called away to foreign and distant lands for assassinations and other things; a mercenary like him often was. But this time Kuro had been asked to attend this particular mission as well, for reasons that Kana knew not of; but as usual she was shafted from being chosen for an adventure of any sort. Oh how she'd love to be able to show Haris and Kuro what she could do!
Youll be okay. And if theres one thing I ask of you, its to stay here. Understand, Scout? Were Hariss last words to her before he departed from their home; or rather, what was left of the ruins of it. The tips of Kanas lips curved into a small grin at this memory. She hated being called Scout with every fiber of her being; and she was pretty determined to prove it whenever neccesary. But shed rather be called that than anything that the others called her.
Kuro had waited until Haris was headed out of what they-saw-home and what others-saw-ruins. He leaned over towards the younger girl and ruffled her hair fervently. "You hear that, lil' girl? You behave yourself and stay here.." Though he answered with utmost fondness, Kana rolled her eyes. What was he, like, two years older than her? Just because he was... Incredibly tall, didn't mean anything!
Even so, Kana nodded and cleared her throat. "I'll be good, Kuro. Please be careful." She exclaimed as she quietly took a step back. With a mild-mannered grin Kuro saluted and head off with Haris, whom was already a good distance off.
Ah, sweet memories. Kanas small smile faded as she remembered the cruel words jived on her part by the others. The others reffered to humans; whom still had an evil misconception that she wasn't human herself. Odd, right?
Even so, that was another reason Kana needed her brother more than anything. She was sure that if for even a moment she wasnt with Haris or on the stretch to find him, theyd most likely seek to kill her. The past Kana didnt remember much, Haris made sure of it to protect her from whatever had happened. He assured her that if she ever found out shed be traumatized for life. So as curious as her mind was, Kana made sure not to pry too deeply on that subject.
Little did this girl of merely fourteen years know, that already forces were being set into motion; an attempt to make her aware of the circumstances of her history. Not her history as the sole sister of the famous mercenary Haris Yama; but of a legacy even much more important. Such thoughts Kana never thought were possible; her simple goal in life was to stay and prove herself worthy of being his sister.
Vision drawn slightly askew by her sleepiness from racing through the woodlands for three days straight, Kana glanced about the mystical pool of water for a place to rest, for surely her blood would freeze if she didn't find someplace to rest soon.
Palms pressed firmly against the bark of the cypress, she used it to stabylize herself before pushing off of it to return to her well-postured footing. With such sudden movements she was surprisingly nimble and silent, though the girl thought nothing of it as she glanced about once more in curiousity. There was no place to rest here without being subject to the wet and cold, she'd have to go farther, and seek elsewhere for refuge.
By the tenacity she was accostumed to; against the odds of her would-be buckling knees and overall trembling being, Kana strode on into the frosty depths of the forest trail. Her own fatigues amazed herself, and because of it she was unaware of the three creatures watching her.
Had she even been the slightest bit awake, had she been the slightest bit rested, she might have heard a murmur lapse through the once silent trees about her, the low growl of them whispering of them plotting against her. It was only when a streak of orange shot by her eyes that Kana noticed anything odd in particular. "Who's the--?" She was cut off by a savage growl, as a wolflike beast of vermillion coat lunged at her and bit hard into her shoulder
Kana let out a startled gasp as she lost footing from the force of the collision, and naturally she tried to grasp for something to break her fall. Her hands caught nothing but the cold air, and in absolutely petrifying fear she turned to see vicious demon; and then she felt a cracking blow as she landed upon the cold, rough ground. Everything started to fade and colors bled.
The last thing she saw before she passed out was the large wolf-beast standing over her, long teeth exposed in a menacing snarl; with Kana's own silver blood dripping from its mouth in a mix with syliva. But the most haunting thing was its eyes, dark red and pupiless, narrowed to look down at her. The eyes of a true demon....
Until next time...
