Well this thumbnail looks decent. =3 This is my entry for a good friend and sissy of mine, *Senraikin's, contest. In this contest we were supposed to draw a picture of a certain type of disorder, disease, etc. of our choosing that represented that condition. I myself chose Autism, since; well, I myself am autistic.

Symbols used:
The most major and easy to see symbol is the heavy mutilation of a Yin-Yang sign; with the black and white perfectly intertwined. Now what does an old symbol of harmony have to do with Autism? I found a double meaning.
First off; when I think of the Yinyang symbol I have probably what everyone else has, the identification of good and evil. Though a disorder that has gotten people thrown into asylums due to being considered by legal definition insane ( Let the record show that this supposedly was overturned after Autism was finally recognized as a mental disorder. ) people that had autism were more so the victims than antagonists on studies of personality development. In my theory, the actual reason why Autistics were considered insane was because of the fact that Autism is prone to have very infantile behaviors. Examples particularly inside this disorder's case was tantrums and the potential to be dangerous to themselves or others because of sometimes subconsious tendencies.
The second one is another easily noted fact of a Ying and Yang symbol, the fact that they seem to mirror one another. Developing young Autistics often 'reflect' what other people do due to their inability to learn how to do something themselves. This can occur as the repetition or even "Parroting" of words they've heard or actions they've seen in order to try and connect with others.

Another symbol is the Circle in the center of the picture, and more importantly the creatures 'circling' around it to create another mirror affect. Though the causes of Autism precisely are unknown since it affects many parts of the brain and complexly can be derrived from genetics; it is fairly easier diagnosing an Autistic because even at a young age, they have a tendency to be repetative. This is also known as 'sameness', for people diagnosed with Autism seem to have trouble changing from schedules and have very specific; often tedious, prefferences on how things are in their lifestyle. The white and black can also be subsituted to mean day and night, for the schedule of one of heavy autism is like a 'circle' day in or day out. They'll try to have the same things reoccur througout the days; be it from a favorite snack or toy from childhood to choosing the same repetative tasks of filing or whatnot at a later age.

The creatures themselves also advocate symptoms. Besides their coloration that helps produce the yin-yang affect, notice how their mouths are sown shut. Stronger cases of autism usually have problems developing where language is concerned; in some cases this is severe enough that one suffering this condition may not even learn enough words to function by language on a day-to-day basis. Lesser forms of autism actually show a more grandevolent vocabulary true, but this picture is depicting heavier cases since symptoms vary and morph on lesser autistics.
Another fact about these creatures is they have more legs and more paws than most; which is to show that while they cannot speak as well, usually autistics show their wants and needs by manipulations of their hands.
Both of these creatures are blind as well, which doesn't mean that people with autism have trouble seeing; but more so that the antisocial behavior of autistics are actually because they have less dependancy on the usual social stimuli. In younger cases a child with autism could be happier and would smile and be content even if they didn't get as much attention as some other kids needed to be as content. Autistics also prove that they have trouble looking others in the eyes, this reason however is yet to be known as far as I've read (More so they never really explain why, but if I could take an educated guess I'd think it was because of their lesser demand of social interface)
The tails and fur of these creatures.... Don't really have too much deepness to them. But at the same time they do. Forgive me if none of this makes sense, for the cause of these bent or /crooked/ tails is to specify that people of autism usually have trouble developing ideas and abstracts into deeper meanings. So in fact this meaninglessness is a meaning of it's own... << I.. Think?

Lesser meanings would include the sphere more by itself, and the fractals behind it. Unlike most other disorders that provide antisocial behavior, Autistics don't actually preffer being alone, they just have trouble making friends. The one sphere and the several layers of depth in the fractals symbolized that it is not neccesarily the ammount of friends an Autistic has, but the depth of their friendships, that can derrive the social contentness of them.

These are only a few of the ones I can remember right at this moment; I recall faintly having more ideas to the symbols when I concepted this piece but.. I cannot remember them at the moment. I'll add them at a later time if I can recall 'em, but until them I hope these symptoms and symbols suffice.

Meanwhile, there's still time! Go and join my kin's contest if ya have time, I'm sure she'd love having more contestants! ^^

:) I like your explanation and the piece. I myself have Asperger's Syndrome and agree with most everything you've writ here!
